Good morning, members of Grace! This morning I’m pleased to announce to all of you that yesterday, at the Special Congregational Meeting, the membership of our church voted unanimously to extend a call to Pastor Julie Higgs to become the next full-time pastor at Grace Lutheran Church. The excitement and enthusiasm in the room was inspiring to me, and I enjoyed seeing so many smiles and cheering faces!
I have been in contact with both Pastor Julie and the synod office to inform them of our decision, and this morning I will be mailing off documentation of the agreement to the synod office, and an official letter of call to Pastor Julie. She is extremely excited to be joining us, and is looking forward to her ministry here in Adel.
We are nearly at the end of the transition process, but our congregation will need to be concentrating on two very important things in the coming month, prior to the school year beginning.
First of all, we will need to have a proper send off for Pastor Sherer. He has been a perfect interim pastor for our church, and I am very grateful to him for his work and his flexibility as he rolled with the punches during this period. As opportunities are communicated, I encourage you to give of your time to help us give him the proper thank you he deserves on behalf of Grace.
Secondly, we will be scheduling a formal installation of Pastor Julie with the synod office, and we as a church will be excited to give her a proper welcome as well! Pastor Julie’s first day of work with our congregation will be Friday, August 16th, and she will be preaching in our sanctuary for the first time on Sunday, August 18th. The formal installation may not take place on that specific date, but we will surely want to welcome her enthusiastically on that day.
We will need plenty of help to plan for both of these events, and I hope to have as many of you a part of the celebrations as possible!
In closing, a special thank you from all of us must be extended to the six members of the call committee – Larry Holle, Dewey Dalen, Margo Swanson, Dale Christensen, Carla Kaney, and Craig Poldberg – for all of their hard work, dedication, and prayerful consideration in these past months. They should feel very satisfied with their work, and we certainly need to be personally thanking them in the weeks to come. Please give them a pat on the back and a big thank you next time you see them!
Have a great week, and I’ll see you in church!
