Christian Education

Kids in pre-K through 6th grade meet weekly on Wednesday evening for learning about Jesus, sharing God’s love. Using the Spark curriculum, Christian Education at Grace is centered around teaching God’s Word through the Bible. We deep dive into Bible stories each week through art, music, cooking, games, and other workshops. We also weave service projects and other activities into our time together to reinforce how our faith is part of our everyday life.

The evening starts with a community meal at 5:00 pm, story and song for all ages at 5:40 pm, and then classes for pre-K to 6th graders from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm. Contact Susan Hannam at (515) 771-5157 for more information about Christian Education.

Adult Bible Study

The Tuesday Morning Bible Study meets from 9:00 to 10:30 am each week. The group frequently considers the upcoming texts for worship, combining individual impressions and questions with information from theologians and historical sources. These studies focus on the readings for the following Sunday, and each week is an independent study. At other times, the group does a multi-week study.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes for 7th and 8th grade students meet weekly on Wednesdays at Grace from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Each week, we explore the basics of the Christian faith using the Bible, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and our own questions in a safe place to explore biblical truths, the world’s values, and the kind of life to which Christ invites us and calls us.

Following a two-year rotation between focus on the Bible and focus on the Small Catechism, students prepare to affirm their baptism in the fall of 9th grade.

Social Justice Education

Grace Lutheran partners with the Center for Social Ministry to offer social justice education and poverty awareness opportunities. In-person and online courses on poverty, racial equity, hunger, care of God’s creation and other social issues are available.
