First Communion Training Event
Grace Lutheran is looking for families interested in their children participating in a First Communion training experience.
Most churches, ours included, are leaving it up to the family’s discernment as to when their children are ready. Therefore children ages 4 and older are welcome to attend.
Details:
At least one parent/adult is asked to attend, but both are welcome.
At this moment we are checking to see if enough families are interested, and then will set a date. So please contact us and express your interest. Contact either the church office at gracelutheranadel@gmail.com, or call 515-993-4665 or Pastor Marsha at pastormarshagraceadel@gmail.com or call/text 515-320-5776.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the philosophy of our Holy Communion practices Pastor Marsha would be happy to take time to listen and answer any questions.
More details about Holy Communion and the upcoming training:
As times have changed, ELCA Lutherans are encouraging parents to allow their children to participate in Holy Communion at younger ages than in the past. Studies have found that children learn best by participating, "vi.th the addition of an educational piece to accompany that experience. Most churches, our included are leaving it up to the family's discenunent as to when their children is ready. Therefore children ages 4 and older are welcome to attend.
We will be offering an 3 hour afternoon event. It ·will include experiencing the traditional Seder Meal thatJesus and his disciples participated in at his Last Supper, vvith accompanying teaching as to its connections with the Old Testament story.
The children will also bake unleavened bread and learn about the familiar Biblical metaphor of Jesus as the bread of life.
Then, we will spend some time in the sanctuary leanling about our particular practices here at Grace of Holy Communion and the different ways other Christians celebrate this special meal and Holy Sacrament.
Finally, there will be a special recogilition in worship of these children at a date set by the families.
