Youth & Families

At Grace, youth in 7th to 12th grades, along with their families, grow in faith through worship, learning, and serving together in community. We provide a safe and supportive environment where teens can explore their relationship with God, develop meaningful friendships, and engage in service opportunities that make a difference.

Confirmation
(Affirmation of Baptism)

Confirmation is a time to learn about the Bible (story of God and God’s people), God’s promises (covenant), and a Lutheran understanding of faith and beliefs. Young people build relationships with their peers and others as they explore prayer and other spiritual practices, their own faith, and a life of discipleship now and as they grow.

Students in 7th and 8th grades:

  • prepare to affirm the baptismal promises made on their behalf AND

  • explore ways to live out those promises in daily life (discipleship) now and throughout their lives.

Confirmation isn’t just an academic process or a requirement for membership at Grace. Rather, it is a way for students to learn and grow in faith by engaging young people, their families, and the whole congregation in community, learning, and service together through connection with caring adults, in their shared baptismal identities as God’s beloved children.

Confirmation Classes (7th & 8th grade)

Wednesdays, 7:30–8:30 pm (September–May)

Confirmation follows a two-year rotation, alternating between focus on the Bible (2023-24) and focus on the Small Catechism (2024-25). Each year includes exploring discipleship, prayer, spiritual practices, service, and the life of faith. We meet weekly through the school year, following the ADM school district calendar. Classes are taught by Pastor Tania Schramm with support from adult leaders and parents/guardians. If a student needs an alternative to weekly classes on Wednesdays or other accommodations, please let Pastor Tania know.

  • Students attend classes, worship with their families, serve the community, and build relationships “among God’s faithful people.”

  • Families support their student’s faith formation through devotions and caring conversations at home and on-the-go, prayer and worship, as well as helping in the classroom and at events, as needed.

Affirmation of Baptism (9th grade)

The Rite of Confirmation (a.k.a. Affirmation of Baptism) is celebrated in the fall of 9th grade during a Sunday morning worship service. We typically meet several times in September and October to review the Affirmation of Baptism promises, plan for the worship service, and explore a life of faith in high school and beyond. Students also meet with Pastor Tania to share their confirmation verse and faith statement.

Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:
… to live among God’s faithful people
… to hear the Word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper
… to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed
… to serve all people, following the example of Jesus
… to strive for justice and peace in all the earth

—I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.
